August 5 2018: Leighton Buzzard

Our Summer outing was a very enjoyable day at the Leighton Buzzard Narrow Gauge Railway model railway
day. The group contributed several layouts to the exhibition at Page’s Park station. Danny Figg had three
micro-layouts: “A Train Set for Christmas” in 1:12 scale, 3mm gauge: ‘Promontorio’ (006.5 static diorama) and
Cole’s Quarry in 009. Malcolm Harrison had ‘Achalraj’ (Himalayan Railway) and Heys Quay. The Royston club,
led by their chairman and our co-ordinator, Tony Clarke, brought ‘Royston Wharf’. Stephen Sullivan showed
‘Holbeach Estates’ and Andi Nethercoat brought a 1:24 scale layout ‘Castle Works’. There were more narrow
gauge layouts in the Engine shed in a variety of scales. All exhibitors were also given complimentary tickets for
a return ride to Stonehenge works where we could look at the displays including a demonstration of a sand
digger at work filling rail mounted skips. The beautiful sunshine enhanced the day but did make it rather too hot
at times.
