Often we organise a summer outing, with a Sunday lunch followed by a visit to a place of railway interest. In the photo above we are at Pages Park Shed on the Leighton Buzzard Light Railway.
The most ambitious Summer Outing so far was in 2011, when we went to the Welshpool & Llanfair Railway and enjoyed a return trip in the first-class compartment of their heritage rake, and a tour of the shed and works at Llanfair. Here Sue Key is seen on the footplate of “Countess”.
Group visit to ‘Rocks by Rail’ in Cottesmore, July 2016. The steam locomotive was unfortunately out of action, but this meant that we enjoyed unlimited travel in the cab of Mr.D (Thomas Hill Vanguard 186, 1967), the last working quarry loco in the UK, retired from Barrington Cement Works in 2005.
Every year we have Christmas Lunch. This is the group Christmas Lunch 2016, at the Raven, Hexton. Photo: Jack Shawe
